Thank you for helping me support our scholarship students!

Many of you know how important the mission of the Northwest Outward Bound School is to me. I began work as an instructor with the Northwest Outward Bound School in 2009, and since then have seen people from all walks of life challenge themselves and each other on our courses. The magic and self-discovery that takes place on an Outward Bound expedition is hard to put into words, but I know that Outward Bound inspires people to be more stronger, more resilient, and more compassionate. I believe that Outward Bound can be a critical component in the lives of young people and that the opportunity to attend a life-changing course should be available to anyone who is ready to go, so I am fundraising for our Pinnacle Scholarship program. Help me support Northwest Outward Bound School to give deserving young people the opportunity to feel they can accomplish anything they put their mind to because of the challenges they were able to overcome on their Outward Bound course. Giving low income youth access to Outward Bound programs gives them a pathway to a life of inspired leadership which reflects the values of integrity, excellence, service, and care for the environment.

For nearly 50 years, Northwest Outward Bound School has been preparing young people to go places in their lives and on this earth and to make a difference in the world. Your support will raise critically-needed funds to support Northwest Outward Bound School's Pinnacle Scholarship program. The program matches community mentors with students who engage in course training and community service. The Pinnacle Program is designed to create confidence and leadership skills as it offers wilderness experience to low-income youth.

Through this program, Northwest Outward Bound School students learn about themselves, they learn about others, they learn technical expeditionary skills, and most important of all, they learn that they can do more than they ever thought possible. Every course uses experiential learning, challenge, and adventure to teach students integrity, compassion, and inclusion of diversity. With your help we can ensure that the life changing experience is open to all regardless of means.

Since 1992 the Pinnacle Program has given hundreds of low-income youth across the country the opportunity to transform their lives through participating in Outward Bound programming free of charge. Northwest Outward Bound School provides full program tuition to youth who would never otherwise experience an Outward Bound course. They also receive free outdoor gear as well as hands-on mentoring and ongoing community service opportunities. Most of our Pinnacle youth have never been in the wilderness. For three weeks, they work in diverse teams to ascend peaks in the North Cascades, raft down the Deschutes River, canoe in Ross Lake National Recreation Area, kayak in the San Juan Islands, sail in Puget Sound, or backpack in the Three Sisters Wilderness. Through their outdoor experiences, students learn to respect, rely on, and interact with the wilderness in new ways and come away inspired by the natural world. Practicing Leave No Trace tenets, students learn first aid, navigation, cooking, camp craft, and other essential skills necessary to thrive in the wilderness. While disconnecting from the wired world, students develop a genuine appreciation for the environment in addition to gaining valuable life skills.
